Famous architect duo, Federico Correa and Alfonso Milá, once again enlisted the help of Alfonso’s younger brother-designer Miguel Milá for this project. They were commissioned to design the lighting in the new office of Barcelona Mayor Pasqual Maragall, who oversaw the city’s successful bid for the 1992 Olympics. The administrative office would be visited by a large body of the international political community and was in urgent need of a revamp that would showcase the high standard of Barcelona design on the world stage. Santa & Cole produced the original lamps, and in 1995 the company embarked on limited production of this series of lamps, named after the mayor’s wife.
The Diana lamp is slender, sturdy and well-defined. The lamp is balanced by a wide metal base, completed with a slightly conical white linen shade. Its metal structure and linen shade are in perfect harmony. Two bulbs are arranged such as to provide lighting without creating shadows. The Diana effortlessly combines a classic air with a modern design, both at home and at the office.
In keeping with the calling of their designers, all floor and table versions of the Diana series have a timeless quality. its appearance evokes a balance between classic tradition and modernity wherever it is placed.

Miguel Milá, an interior designer, inventor and bricoleur, and a pioneer in his field in Spain, began working in the 1950s. With objects, resources and raw materials hard to come by at that time, Milá started designing his own furniture and lamps and soon set up his own company, Tramo (from the Spanish Tra-bajos Mo-lestos, ‘Annoying Jobs’). Many of his pieces have become true contemporary classics. In 2016, the Spanish Ministry of Education and Culture in Spain awarded him the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts. He has won numerous ADI awards (Barcelona), the first Spanish National Design Award (tied with André Ricard), and the ADI Compasso d’Oro for Lifetime Achievements.
